Indices

One position on a whole market — the US 30, the Nasdaq 100, the S&P 500, the German 40.

What you'll learn

Indices

An index measures a basket of shares in one number. An index CFD tracks that number, so a single position gives exposure to the direction of the whole basket rather than to any one company in it — a concept we spend a whole lesson on.

CFDs are explained here for education: you take a position on the price, you never own the underlying asset.

  • Each index follows the trading calendar of its home exchange.

  • Company earnings and central-bank decisions move whole indices, not only single shares.

  • An index can gap between its close and its next open — a risk we cover in the course.

How we teach it

We teach index CFDs as cash-settled instruments carrying no shareholder rights: no dividends are received, no votes are cast, and there is no share certificate behind the position.

CFDs are explained here for education: you take a position on the price, you never own the underlying asset.

Worth knowing

When this market is open

Our published session times for this market: [TRADING HOURS]. Sessions move with daylight saving, and an instrument can pause when its underlying market is closed.

What a trade costs

Every market is taught the same way: one all-in spread, or a tighter spread with a fixed commission per lot, whichever your chosen broker offers. We teach you to read the difference, not to pay us either one.
